Does the concept of family include pets?

Many judicial decisions in Brazil made it clear that yes, the pets integrate the family and, thus, obligations, such as the payment of alimony and even joint custody can be established, which is the same when it comes to visitation rights.
Due to the implications upon these facts, it is important that every couple, when expanding their family with a pet, have in mind which are their plans for the future.
On that point, it is interesting to elaborate contract establishing with whom the pet would stay, or which elements must be considered for that decision (who has a bigger apartment? who has a garden? who has more time?), as well as the determination of which expenses would be considered in the computation of the alimony. It can also be established that one spouse will have the definitive custody and the other spouse won’t use the visitation right, and it is also possible to establish to not proceed with the alimony payment.
The most important thing in this case is to plan, making a possible future situation, even though unpleasant, a more practical to overcome.
